Why do women outlive men?

Research has shown that the life expectancy of women in the UK is 82 years, while for men it’s 79. To find the answer as to why, experiments were done on 356 healthy men and women between the age of 20 and 90.

Findings show that the T-cell and B-cell (key components of the immune system that protect the body against infection and the secretion of antibodies), decreases at a slower rate in women when compared to men.

The fact that men defences weaken faster over time, means that they are more susceptible to disease which shorten their lifespan.
